Dancing Machine is the ninth studio album released by Motown quintet the Jackson 5 in 1974. The album's title track was a No. 2 pop hit and a No. 1 R&B hit in the United States, and the album sold over 2. 6 million copies worldwide briefly returning the group to their former prominence. The group released two additional singles from the album: the funky Whatever You Got, I Want and the group's last Top 20 hit for Motown I Am Love. Dancing, dancing, dancing Tito: Shes a dancing. For a brief time, it seemed as if the magic was back between Motown and the Jackson 5. The title track was their best up-tempo hit since ABC, and put them back on top of the R&B charts for the first time in three years. It just missed topping the pop charts as well, peaking at number two. They even got a second chart hit from the album, and it restored their position within the pop and R&B communities. She's a dancing machine, he told Don Fletcher, another songwriter at the label. Hitting on the title, Davis and Fletcher composed the song with guitarist Dean Parks. They recorded it at the Sound Factory in Los Angeles with session musicians William Salter bass, James Gadson drums and Joe Sample keyboards. The first version of this song was just an album cut, including on the Jackson 5 album Get It Together in September 1973. The group had cooled off by this point: their first four Motown singles went to 1 in 1970, but they didn't crack the Top 10 in 1972 or 1973 Michael Jackson had a 1 hit as a solo artist in this time with Ben. By 1974 when the album Dancing Machine made its appearance, the craze for the Jackson 5 had passed its peak but the LP still sold thousands and the Dancing Machine single reached 1 on the R&B charts and 2 on the pop charts.
