The album title comes from a song by Pantera for the soundtrack of the film Dracula 2000. The band members were looking for an album title, and overheard the song playing on a Pantera CD while they were in a hotel. Avoid the Light Q&A. Producer Kurt Ebelhäuser. Label Superball Music. Featuring Jonas Renkse. Avoid the Light, their second album, offers six mid-length pieces between seven and twelve minutes. Five of them are instrumentals based on repetitive rhythms, crunchy riffs, textural guitars, and a certain ominousmelancholic mood. The bits of found dialogue in Apparitions sound like nothing more than a curtail to post-rock's obligatory cliché, but it's a minor offense in an otherwise strong track. The pieces tend to go on for too long, with little happening once the arrangements have unfolded, but that, too, is typical of a certain form of post-rock. In that regard, &. Avoid The Light's final cut climaxes into a thick, syncopated finale, whistles a complacent acoustic jangle, then fades into the sunset. Long Distance Calling may not appear fresh or exciting at first listen, but give it a chance this is some seriously unique and decidedly European post-rock. In a genre full of imitators, there's not much more one can ask for
