Unlike some veteran jazzmen of the time, Armstrong was still fond of his early recordings and, with this 4LP set, proved that he was supremely capable of revitalising many of his earlier successes. The arrangements were split between two trusted musicians. Bassist Bob Haggart was in charge of all the small group recreations, while Sy Oliver wrote new arrangements for songs from the trumpeters big-band days. Louis Armstrong was a jazz trumpeter, bandleader and singer known for songs like What a Wonderful World, Hello, Dolly, Star Dust and La Vie En Rose. In 1936, Louis Armstrong became the first African-American jazz musician to write an autobiography, Swing That Music.
